A Rap Song in the English Class

A Rap Song in the English Class

I avoid treating people wrong
But when they do
I slap them like King Kong

I really like watching HIMY Mother
But it's no use watching it with my father
Because I already watch it with my brother
Now I'm getting addicted to Gossip girl
And when I do I stay quiet like a pearl

I like imagining a world without War
And not needing Global Warming to stay warm

Sonali wants to have a relationship goal
But she still eats M&Ms from a bowl
Catarina Aguiar wants to be a hotel manager
And me? I am a Power Ranger !

Teacher, please, give us a 5
If you do, we will give you a ride
When we're old enough to drive

Margarida wants to be a designer
She's also a viner
Go check her singinginging....
She's blinginginging

Sorry for wasting your time ...

Studying abroad : Yes or No?

I would really like to study abroad. I think it would be pretty awesome and rewarding. If I had the chance to study in another country, I would definitely choose England (or maybe Scotland or Ireland … the last time I talked about this with my parents we discussed the possibility of England , so I’m talking about it now). England seems like a lovely place to study, embrace different cultures and live new life experiences.
My dream is to get a scholarship to a great University where I could study medicine, but I really need to work hard to achieve that, because people need to get an extremely high average to get in. If I could, I would do all my college years there. Then, maybe, work there after I finish my studies. I think I would love to live there because I really love English and I love to go to new places although I would miss my family and my life in Portugal.

(Ana Beatriz Fernandes, nº1, 9ºB)

I’d love to study abroad because I think it would turn me into a much more grown up person and it would give me the opportunity to experience new things and also to learn more about a different country with a different culture.
I would like to go to London because I have been in love with the city since I was a child and I love English (the language) and I would love to live in a country where it is the main language. In there, I’d like to go to college and then find a job in a home décor or a fashion lifestyle magazine! I would love to live there with a friend of mine. We could share a cute apartment in London. It would be so cool!  Although I know it would be really hard and we would need lots of money, I still hope for it.
I would really love to study and live in London. I really hope that one day this huge dream of mine will come true!
(Ana Nunes, nº3, 9ºB)

Studying abroad is not in my plans for the future. However, if I was given that opportunity, I would definitely take it.
The reason I’m not looking forward to studying abroad is that I want to finish school in Portugal, get in a good university and finish my student’s life in here to then work abroad. That is something I’ve been planning for a long time, but if the opportunity to study abroad comes along earlier, then great!
I’m planning on living and working in London because it’s my favourite city and I think I would fit in perfectly. It would be a dream to live there permanently and works as a dance teacher and in the marketing area.
I hope my plans go well and I end up doing what I love the most in the place I love the most!

  (Beatriz Coelho, nº6, 9ºB)

Someday I would like to study abroad. It would be a great adventure! I don’t know exactly the destination… I guess I’ve never thought about it. Maybe somewhere in England because I’ve always wanted to go there.
I think that studying abroad is an experience everyone should have, even if it is just for one year.
When you get the chance to study outside your comfort zone , you’re not only getting braver butyou are also getting happier.
We can discover new cultures, new places and also new people. I think it would be funny to arrive to a new school and make friends from different cultures. It changes our perspective of life and I believe that’s amazing!

(Margarida Valido, nº19, 9ºB)

My opinion about studying abroad is that it must be a great experience. In another country, everything is different – the people, the school, the language, the routines. Everything changes and you must be prepared! I don’t know if I would like it because I have everything here. I’m not prepared to leave all behind and just go abroad. But, this is now, maybe one day I will be ready to do it. Who knows? The advantages of studying abroad are: it gives us more opportunities; you can learn new things, new cultures and visit other parts of the world. On the other hand, the disadvantages are: you will be far from your family and friends. Maybe, on the first day, you will feel alone until you meet someone. Besides, the lessons will be in a new language that you are not used to, but a very challenging situation.
 (Henrique,9ºC)
I think studying abroad can be absolutely fantastic, and definitely I would like to do it someday. When you study abroad, you learn about another country, their habits, their culture and you get to know the local people, most of all.But it’s not easy going abroad. It can be very expensive, extremely expensive! You will probably miss your friends and family back home. Still it’s something to consider because the good ones drown out the bad ones . You’ll make new friends and you will grow as a person.I would really like to study abroad because it seems like a wonderful experience!

An email to a friend on taking a gap year

Dear John,
Some days ago you asked me advice on studying abroad. I don’t have much experience on that but I think that you should study in another country because you are a very good student and in this country you won’t get anywhere.
As I see it, the pros of studying abroad are more than the cons. Some pros are that if you decide to study abroad, you will have more opportunities in the work market. You will also become more open-minded towards new concepts and ideas. In fact, you  will be a book full of stories that never end.
However, if you go, you will miss your parents very much. But if you want that so badly, it is the price to pay.
Now, only you know what to do. I can’t help you more.
    Good luck with your choice.
    Goodbye,
     Xxx
     Sofia (9ºA)
 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Marta,
How are you doing? I hope everything is fine.
I received your email where you asked for advice on studying abroad.
Well, since I have been to London to study, I can tell that there are some good things as well as some bad things.
First of all, you are in a different country with people you don’t know, which can be really cool, but kind of intimidating, too. You will miss your family. It will be scary. But, on the hand, you’ll get to explore amazing places with people that will become close friends. Your English (or any other language that you’re studying) will improve. You’ll create a bond with the city you’re in.

Overall, it will be an amazing experience. Yes, it can be scary thinking of being in a place you’ve never been to before, with people you’ve never seen, but it’s a lifetime experience and you are so lucky to be able to do it.

After reading and talking about eating habits, students wrote their own texts on the food they usually eat and what they think about it.

" Nowadays people eat a lot of fast food, because they don't have much time to eat or eat health food. Fast food is not expensive, but it's wrong. You don't need more money to have a better life. If you have time to search about it, you'll find many ways to eat healthy food.
Me? I try to do my best and eat well. Sometimes I go running to lose weight and stay fit.
If you just spend your day eating fast food ,cakes and sweets, try to think about your future."
Have a good and long life!

João Agostinho, nº15,9ºA

" I'm not the fittest person in the world but this year I'm going to change that! When I was younger, I used to eat a lot of junk food and I liked it. Sometimes my parents gave me some money to buy some ice cream and I bought a lot of them. Now, I'm eating some more vegetables, fruit , fish and white meat but I'm not going to stay here! Probably, I'll do a new sport or go to a gym to become a stronger and healthy person.
When I become older, I'll try to be vegetarian. I know that it is tough but I can do it and I will!"

Miguel Caselhas, nº 23 , 9ºA

"I love fast food but I know this is unhealthy. I like to eat sweets ... Healthy food can be good, too. This year I want to be healthier than I was last year.
Coca-cola is my favorite drink but it's terrible for my health but I love it. When I go out , I eat fast food. Sometimes I like it; sometimes I don't.
I would like to be a vegetarian. I know that a healthy body means a healthy body so I also would like to do more exercise to have a healthy life. "

Mariana Caetano Alexandre, nº 22, 9ºA

And you? What do you think about your eating habits and the food you eat?

My favourite film is “The Fault in our stars”. It is a drama, comedy and romantic film.
The film is about a girl (she has cancer) who falls in love with a boy named Augustus Waters (he has cancer, too). In the middle of the film they travel by plane to Amsterdam, to meet Hazel’s favourite writer, Peter Van Houten. When they come back they live a normal life, as boyfriend and girlfriend. At the end of the film, Augustus dies, and at his funeral, Peter Van Houten shows up and tries to apologize for his bad attitude and he gives a letter written by Augustus  to Hazel. Hazel says she loves Augustus.
I love this film because it’s very romantic, sad and beautiful. I recommend it to everyone who enjoys watching tearjerkers!

My favourite film is “The fault in our stars ".It is a very romantic film. I saw it at the cinema alone.
“The fault in our stars " is about two young people that fall in love in the most weird place (a hospital), because she has cancer and he had recovered from cancer. She was a girl  a bit shy before she met him. He is very happy and loves life.
I like this film because the actors in the film are both interesting and boring. Although she thinks that she is going to die, he is the one who ends up dying.
In my opinion, the film is great, because the story is very romantic and sad. The message conveyed by  the film is : " Just enjoy your life and live until the last second with your loved ones , because one day all this may change ".

Teenage years: the best and the worst years of our life?

Some people say that teenage years can be great …others say the exact opposite.
In my opinion, teenage years are hard and difficult because of school and friends. School can be difficult, especially, when we are 14 and over. Teachers put too much pressure on us and we feel nervous. Some friends aren’t really our friends. They pretend their feelings and when we realize it, it’s already late as we were already attached to them. It’s pretty bad!
However, teenage years can also be amazing! Apart from false friends, we have our best true friends with us and we have so much fun with them! One thing that is good but also bad it’s our first love. We love someone more than anything and it’s terrifying when everything ends …

By Catarina Gomes, 9ºD

Adults always say that teenage years are the best part of life. Maybe they are right , but sometimes, I really disagree with them.
When someone becomes a teenager, he or she has to pass by all those body changes, and sometimes that’s not very comfortable.
Then you go to 7th grade and you need to start studying a lot, spend all your weekends at home. It doesn’t matter how good the weather is outside, you have to stay at home studying.
The worst parts of being a teenager are the mental problems with your family, your friends, boyfriend and girlfriend. And also when you see your friends smoking, drinking alcohol or taking drugs. You have to say no and try to make them stop doing that.
However, teenage years can bring really good things as you don’t have to worry about money problems and you have more holidays than adults. This is the time when you can have lots of fun. I think that’s the best part of being a teenager!

By Inês Saldanha, 9ºD

Teenage years can be great but they can also be difficult times. The best of teenage years is that you are young! When you are young, you can go out with your friends, have fun and you don’t have to worry about anything. Anything except for school! When you are an adult you can’t do this because you have more
responsibilities. Being a teenager can be good. You can just sit back and relax. Spend hours watching TV or surfing the Net.
However, being a teen can also be the worst time of your life… When you are a teenager, you are under a lot of stress. You worry about exams and school grades. Sometimes you feel like you’re not good enough and everything you do is wrong. You worry that your parents won’t feel proud because your grades aren’t as good as they wanted to. Teens feel pressured by their own friends to smoke or take drugs and they feel like they have to do it to fit in. Some are bullied or cyberbullied and feel horrible about themselves.
I think there are good things and bad things about being a teenager but you just have to enjoy it while you can. If you don’t, you can be missing the best time of your life and you’ll regret it. Don’t let people put you down. Teenage years are too short to care about mean things people say that aren’t true.

By Luisa Lages, 9ºD

Being a teenager can be both wonderful and terrible. I hope I’ll remember my teenage years as incredible times, but the truth is that that may not happen.
Teenagers are like a rollercoaster of feelings and emotions. In a minute, we can be smiling and in the next one, crying. That happens because we go through a lot at a very young age. Sometimes, more than we can handle with.
I think people say that the teenage times are the best because we are (at that time) old enough to know what’s bad and young enough to do it anyway.
We’re free and the world’s an open book, just like we are too. But I think it can also be the worst of times because there’s a lot going on inside our minds. Sometimes we’re bullied, go through depressions or anxiety problems, and that is terrible. No one should have to go through that.

I guess what I’m trying to say is: teenage years aren’t perfect, but they’re definitely worth it.

How do teens feel about fashion?

For me, fashion is quite important because if I wear good clothes, I feel better, with more self-esteem.I usually choose brands that are comfortable and nice. My favourite brand is “Wesc”. I like it very much because it’s warm when it’s cold outside and fresh on a sunny day. I don’t know why but this is how I feel.
However, I never forget  that what makes someone special is our personality! Clothes just give you a small “boost”.
I’m sure I wouldn’t like to work in the world of fashion. But I wouldn't mind to take some pictures to make a brand more popular. It is boring, as I see it, to design clothes, I'd rather buy them. I really like wearing caps, but I don’t like the stamped sweatshirts. Everyone wears them and think they are original, but they aren't.  Original, nowadays, is to go to the second hand market to buy clothes and shoes. xD

By João Carvalho, 8ºD

Fashion is not very important to me. The only reason I wear brands is because some of my friends make fun of me if I don’t. I don’t think you should make fun of someone just because they don’t wear certain brands. Each person is free to wear what they like and be who they are.
My favourite clothes are my denim jacket, my denim shorts and my Converse All-Stars trainers. My favourite fashion celebrity is Heidi Klum because when I was younger, me and my dad would watch “Project Runway” every night.
I wouldn’t like to work in the fashion word, though. Some of my friends say that I should be a model because I’m very tall and skinny but I wouldn’t like it. I really like eating pizza and I would hate having someone controlling my diet also I wouldn’t like to be a fashion designer because I’m terrible at arts...

By Joana Cardoso, nr  9, 8ºC

In my opinion, fashion isn’t very important, but we should always be conscious about what we wear. When I buy clothes, I pick those that reflect my style and personality. I think that we should always feel comfortable in what we wear.

I wouldn’t work in the fashion world because I think that there are more important and interesting jobs. However, I haven’t decided what I want to do when I grow up.

My advice: Don’t forget, fashion should always reflect who you are and your personality!

By Sara Lira, 8ªA

Fashion is important for me. However, I only buy clothes when I need them. Normally, I buy them with my parents, family, friends, etc...

I think that brands are important because a certain store/brand has its own style. Usually, I am fond of wearing brands, such as, Massimo Dutti, Pepe Jeans London, DKNY, Tommy Hilfiger and other stylish brands.
Brands may be important when you choose your clothes but to make true friends what is important is their personality.
I don’t want to work in the world of fashion, but if I worked there, I’d be a photographer because I love taking photos and, I take some good photos.
I wouldn’t be a model because I wouldn’t know what poses I would have to do in front of a camera.

By Margarida Paulo, 8ºD

Hello! My name is Catarina and I was invited to write for my school newspaper. Today is about fashion; my opinion about fashion.

Fashion is important to me because you have to wear beautiful clothes and not mix colours! I don’t have a favourite make of clothes, I just have favourite stores.

I wouldn’t like to work in the world of fashion because I don’t like it, I don’t know why… I think what makes someone special is the personality because, as I see it, style doesn’t tell anything about a person and personality does.

But, the most important is that you have to feel comfortable in your clothes and wear what you like, not what other people want you to wear.

Unforgettable Summer holidays

Last summer holidays my three friends and I were at the beach when suddenly my friend Peter invited us to go to a famous disco in the Algarve that night. That was the disco where all famous actresses, football players and singers used to go to. But the most important thing was that Rihanna was staying there that night!!! So, we went shopping for accessories, clothes, footwear and cosmetics to get ready for the night.
At night, Peter took us from our house to the party. We were beautifully dressed. We arrived there and noticed that Peter was wearing sport shorts. He looked ridiculous and it was very embarassing. Anyway, we went dancing and had some drinks. To tell you the truth, we didn’t just have  some drinks...In fact, we had lots of drinks! And as you can imagine, we couldn’t drive back
home  because we were very jolly. So we stayed there and slept on the floor. In fact, it was funny but I don’t want to repeat this ever again.

~ ROMANO’S P.O.V. ~
I woke up to the sound of music. It was my and my brother’s birthday and I decided to go to sleep earlier. I was trying to sleep again when I heard someone knocking on my door.
“I’m coming…” I said with a voice of annoyance. I don’t have good memories of my birthdays… Everyone just ignores me while they center the party on Veneziano. It’s always ‘Veneziano this, Veneziano that…’ I’m sick of it all. I opened the door. “What do you want?!” I asked without looking at who was at the door.
“Lovino…” I heard the little and weak voice say. It was my crush’s voice: Anna. I discovered her last year in the snow, alone and without memories and later I found out that she was mute. She had soft pink wavy hair and pinkish crimson eyes. Her appearance was kind of weird for a human but she was really cute. If you’re asking why she said my name is because the only word that she can say is my name. She pulled out her notebook and started writing.
“Aren’t you coming to the party?”  She wrote with her little handwriting.
“No, I’m not.” I said with a grumpy voice. “Everybody just ignores me! Why should I?”
“Because I want to be with you at the party.” She wrote. Did she mean it? She wanted to be with me. She started writing again “Besides, it’s your birthday, after all…”
We stayed in silence for a while. She sighed. Anna was turning around when I grabbed her hand and walked with her downstairs, Prussia and Portugal were dancing on the dance floor. Even though I didn’t like Prussia very much, I had to admit that they were a cute couple. I snapped out of my thoughts when Anna pushed me to the dance floor. The music changed. I knew what song it was. The beautiful love song ‘Cantarella’.

I don't own Hetalia nor Cantarella. Lara Santos, nº13, 8ºC
